Where Little Minds Grow

Appreciating the Educators Who Make It Happen

Little Voices, Big Expressions

Last weekend, I had the privilege of being invited by the Kilkenny County Childcare Committee kkccc.ie to deliver an interactive keynote at their annual seminar, Little Voices, Big Expressions: The Art of Creative Play. It was an energising and inspiring day spent with early childhood educators who consistently show such passion, creativity, and care for young children.

My keynote, Storytelling as a Pedagogy, focused on practical, research-informed ways that focus on storytelling as a way to nurture creative and critical thinking in early childhood settings. Together, we explored how expressive storytelling, playful inquiry, and intentional teacher prompts create conditions where children can make meaning, ask questions, and discover their own voices.

What made the session especially enjoyable was how wholeheartedly participants engaged with the interactive elements. From analysing characters to exploring points of view, the educator’s professional curiosity, humour, and thoughtful reflection made such a great contribution.

The wider event itself was a celebration of creativity in the early years, with a wonderful Keynote on using puppetry as a powerful tool in early years education and workshops on sociodramatic play, sensory exploration with clay, and music-making. It was clear how much care and intention went into creating a space where educators could learn, play, recharge, and feel valued.

A heartfelt thank you to the Kilkenny County Childcare Committee for the invitation, the warm welcome, and the thoughtful planning behind such a meaningful seminar. And thank you to every educator who attended, your enthusiasm and openness made the experience truly memorable.

Here’s to continuing the work of nurturing little voices, big expressions, and the magic that unfolds when children (and adults) are given space to think, wonder, and create.
